Информация об общественных процессах производства, обмена, распределения, накопления и потребления материальных и иных благ. Это те сведения, знания, которые извлекаются из экономических данных. Иначе говоря, данные сами по себе, пока они не представляют ценности для решения какой-либо задачи, не являются информацией. По назначению в процессе управления общественным производством Э.и. подразделяется на управляющую и осведомляющую (например, учетно-статистическую). Управляющая информация состоит из решений, доводимых до сведения исполнителей, — либо в форме прямых приказов, плановых заданий (т.е. «директивно-адресных показателей«), либо в форме экономических и моральных стимулов, мотивирующих поведение исполнителей (объектов управления). Осведомляющая информация (прежде всего воплощенная в отчетных показателях) выполняет в экономической системе функцию обратной связи: это сведения о результатах выполнения решений, о состоянии управляемого объекта и т.д., с учетом которых принимаются новые решения, т.е. осуществляется дальнейший процесс управления. В зависимости от возможности использования и ценности информации для принятия управленческого решения, она подразделяется на полезную, избыточную и ложную. Полезная характеризуется достоверностью, полнотой, своевременностью, доступностью для обработки. Ложная возникает при ошибках в сборе, обработке и передаче данных. См. также Избыточная информация. По степени обработки и месту в информационном процессе Э.и. можно подразделить на первичную и производную. Первичная — это как бы сырье в процессе переработки информации: она добывается путем непосредственного наблюдения, регистрации происходящих событий, т.е. прямого сбора и восприятия данных. Производная же — продукт той или иной ее переработки. Э.и. подразделяется также на постоянную, условно-постоянную и переменную. Однако это разделение носит условный характер; например, для предприятий нормы расхода материалов представляют собой условно-постоянную информацию, а для вышестоящего органа, планирующего производство на перспективу — это информация переменная. Система Э.и. в стране охватывает как управляющую информацию (плановую и нормативную), так и осведомляющую: оперативный производственный учет, бухгалтерский учет, банковскую информацию, статистику. В экономике обращаются миллиарды экономических показателей. Задача каждого органа управления, любой системы управления, включая автоматизированные, заключается в том, чтобы извлечь из этих показателей максимум полезной Э.и. для принятия решений. В заключение заметим, что в управлении народным хозяйством и его элементами (фирмами) применяется не только Э.и., но и общественно-политическая, научно-техническая и другие виды информации.

Научная дисциплина, изучающая сущность, способы применения и совершенствования экономической информации. В частности, она занимается разработкой искусственных информационных языков, которые используются в работе с электронными вычислительными машинами. Большую роль в этом играет область Т.э.и., которую называют экономическая семиотика (семиотика — наука о знаках и знаковых системах). Другие разделы этой теории посвящены изучению и рационализации потоков экономической информации, изучению полезности или ценности информации, характеристике каналов передачи сообщений и т.д. По существу, она рассматривает все процессы, происходящие в экономике, только с одной их стороны — информационной, отвлекаясь от материально-вещественной основы, денежно-стоимостных процессов и других сторон.
